Smith County Chamber of Commerce Celebrates 50 Years at the Annual Banquet

The 50th Annual Smith County Chamber of Commerce Banquet and meeting was held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Smith County Ag Center. Over 200 community members and business owners attended. Several awards were presented.

Jeff Mason, Smith County Mayor, shared some updates and plans for the county. Special guest speaker was Smith County born Albert Gore, Jr. Gore is a former U.S. vice president and Nobel Peace Prize winner. He was recently recognized by President Joe Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Gore was present at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Smith County Chamber of Commerce in 1974 and has supported Smith County and the Chamber for decades. Several awards were given to citizens and business leaders:

  • Leadership Award – Sue Teat
  • Community Service Award – Melissa Hebert
  • Woman Business Leader Award – Robin Underwood
  • John Carson Maggart Business Leader Award – Anthony Apple

A special proclamation celebrating the 50 years of the Smith County Chamber was made by Senator Paul Bailey.

Denise Givens was elected as president of the Smith County Chamber of Commerce for the 2024-2025 year.
