The Smith County Cattlemen’s Association held their 2018 annual meeting on January 22 at the Smith County Ag Center in Carthage. Over 100 producers enjoyed a meal sponsored by Holder Farm & Gate and The Smith County Commission Company Livestock Barn.

For the 4th year in a row, a bred heifer was auctioned during the meeting as a fundraiser that will help with the scholarship fund. The commercial heifer was donated by Eddie & Brenda Paschal this year. Scholarship recipients for 2017 were Maggie Taylor, Sydney Driver, Jay Vaden, and Jessica Bridgewater.

One of the highlights of the annual meeting each year is the presentation of the Producer of the Year award. This year’s winner was B.L. Owen. Mr. Owen is a longtime cattle producer who raises registered Angus cattle and also taught in the Smith County School system for 30 years.

The Smith County Cattlemen’s Association would like to thank all the members for being a part of our organization and give a special thanks to those who had a hand in making this year’s annual meeting a success. We’d like to invite everyone to our Open Beef Show on May 5 and encourage you to follow us on facebook at Smith County Cattlemen’s Association.
