Smith County 911 Service Disrupted by AT&T Outage

December 25, 2020

Update: Regular phone service has been restored, and normal phone numbers for E-911 and law enforcement are working normally.

Due to an outage with AT&T’s service in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia, the Smith County E-911 system is experiencing communication issues. For emergency assistance in Smith County, please call 615-735-2121 from a landline until service is restored. You may also call 615-489-2570 from a cell phone. This impact does not affect the ability of Smith County EMS to dispatch emergency personnel. Emergency services are still being provided as normal.

Local law enforcement is also experiencing issues with their phone lines. You may reach them at the following lines until regular service is restored:

  • Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Gordonsville Police, and South Carthage Police: 615-489-9390 if their normal line of 615-735-2626 doesn’t connect
  • Carthage Police Department: 615-489-7643 if their normal line of 615-735-2525 doesn’t connect

Multiple counties and municipalities have reported outages and communication issues with 911 services across the state, including neighboring Wilson and Putnam Counties.

The outage occurred after a large explosion that occurred this morning in Downtown Nashville. The outage includes TV, phone, and internet customers. AT&T tweeted that the service disruption was related to damage to one of its facilities from the blast. You can follow AT&T’s updates in their recovery effects here.

As of 3:30 PM, flights have been grounded at Nashville International Airport due to telecommunication issues related to the explosion.

Law enforcement authorities believe the blast was an intentional explosion from a bomb detonated in an RV according to a statement from Metro Nashville.
