Smith County 4-H 2018 County Public Speaking Contest

Twelve Smith County 4-H’ers, along with parents and grandparents journeyed to Putnam County on January 23^rd for the Sub-regional 4-H Public Speaking Contest (see photos below). To qualify to compete, 4-H’ers must have received either first or second place honors during the County Contest held in December of 2017.

The Sub-regional Contest was extremely tough as over 100 4-H’ers, from nine counties were divided into 6 groups according to their grade level. Case Collins and Blithe Landreth competed in the 4th grade contest, with Case reciving 2^nd place. In the 5th grade division, Gabe Harville and Greyson Banka represented Smith County well, with Greyson placing 2^nd and Gabe placing 3^rd. Jorja Summers and Ava Grisham competed in the 6th grade contest, with Jorja placing 5^th. Abby Malone and Carson Meeks represented Smith County well in the 7th grade contest. In the 9-12 grade contest, Smith County again had four excellent 4-H’ers with Olivia Jarvis, Ellie Johnson, Spencer Meeks, and Grace Harville competing. All four of our Senior High 4-H’ers placed in the top 5 of their grade and will move on to the Regional Public Speaking Contest in February. We are extremely proud of these outstanding youth that exhibited their life skills in communication!
