Smith County 4-H News by Katie Clark – UT Extension Agent
Fourteen Smith County 4-H’ers have spent the past eight weeks honing their skills and practicing archery in preparation to compete in the Central Region Archery Jamboree which was held Saturday, March 25th in Murfreesboro. The following twelve 4-H members competed, all of whom placed in the top two thirds of contestants from over 25 counties. In the Junior Division was Lauren Gregory, Rebekah Woodard and Keiri Woodard. In the Junior High Division was Gary Claywell, Carson Meeks, Clayton Bundy, Bianca Mendenhall, Ellie Johnson, Isaac Borck, Hannah Borck, and Abby Malone. Spencer Meeks competed in the Senior Division. Smith County had five 4-H members who placed in the top 25 overall, and Gary Claywell was 9th in the Junior High division. More importantly Smith County 4-Hers exhibited exemplary character and discipline and represented our county well.
We would like to especially thank our volunteer leader, Kenny Claywell, for his time and effort spent training this group.
The 4-H Shooting Sports program develops safe shooting habits in youth ages 8-19. Students practice under the guidance of certified instructors and coaches who have received over 15 hours of training in the areas of safety, techniques, coaching and youth development.
