Single vehicle rollover accident on I-40 Sunday

(Smith Count Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – Around 4am Sunday, July 16, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a single vehicle MVA on I-40 west bound around the 264 mile marker.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found a 2001 white dodge utility van on its roof. The vehicle was traveling west when it exited the left side of the roadway, struck the guard rail and overturned. Authorities could not locate any passengers of the vehicle at the scene of the crash. A man was later found walking east bound on I-40 at the 263 mile marker and was identified as the driver.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Arthur Ellis, 29, of Cookeville, TN.

Ellis was transported to Riverview Regional Medical Center by Smith County EMS with minor injuries.

Ellis was cited for failure to exercise due care, not wearing seatbelt, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to show proof of insurance.

Trooper Brandon Jackson of the Tennessee Highway Patrol worked the scene of the accident. Smith County Rescue Squad, Smith County EMS, and Smith County Sheriff’s Office was also dispatched to the scene.

Dale’s Towing & Recovery removed the vehicle from the scene. The van was recently purchased from the Gordonsville Nazarene Church and is no longer used by the church.
