(Smith County Insider Press) South Carthage, Tenn. – Wednesday afternoon at 4:30pm, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a plane crash in a field in South Carthage, TN.
Authorities arrived on scene and found a single engine plane nose down in the middle of a cow pasture around 175 McCall Street in South Carthage.
An eye witness said that it looked like the plane was trying to land when a big gust of wind caused it to nose dive.
The male victim was transported by Vanderbilt LifeFlight to Vanderbilt Medical Center. His condition is listed as stable at this time, and a first responder on the scene stated, “he was awake and could talk.”
The pilot was identified as Collin McDonald. McDonald was the only person on the plane. Last year, he recreated a transcontinental flight from 1911 while a student at Middle Tennessee State University. Click HERE for more information about the transcontinental flight.
The FAA is currently on scene investigating the crash.
