On Friday December, 18, the Sheriff’s Office’s Santa’s Shoppers program helped 220 children have a brighter Christmas this year and foster a connection to our local law enforcement.

Things were a little different this year due to COVID-19. Officers were not able to shop with the children as usual, but an event was held at the Smith County Ag Center in South Carthage. Each child received a goodie bag and a gift card to Walmart through the program this year.

The Santa’s Shoppers program is a joint effort between the Sheriff’s Office and the Smith County Chamber of Commerce, funded by donations, to provide Christmas presents to children who otherwise might not receive anything.

The program has increased every year from 30 children during its first year in 2014. In total, over 700 children have been assisted through the program.
