February 3, 2016

(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On January 25, Sgt. Dustin Hailey and Deputy Steven Ray of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department went to the Defeated Creek Community to serve a criminal warrant on William Gary Jaco for violation of sex offender registry.

Upon arrival at the home where Jaco was staying, officers observed Jaco in the driveway working on a vehicle. The officers informed Jaco of why he was being taken to jail, they then patted him down for weapons and asked him to empty his pockets. He emptied his pockets on the hood of the car and the contents included a pack of rolling papers.

After Deputy Ray placed Jaco in the back of the patrol car, he went back to the location where Jaco had been working on the vehicle. Deputy Ray located a bottle that Jaco had in his back pocket when the officers arrived, but dropped it on the ground when they pulled in. The bottle contained several smoked marijuana cigarettes along with fresh marijuana residue. Jaco denied knowledge of the contents of the bottle.

William Gary Jaco was transported to Smith County Jail Facility for booking. He was held with a $12,000 bond.

Jaco was charged with tampering or fabricating evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use, simple possession of schedule VI, and violation of sex offender registry.
