SMITH COUNTY WEATHER ALERT — A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect until 8 PM.
Storms are firing over West Tennessee this afternoon and moving east toward us. HRRR (below) shows the storms arriving late this afternoon/early this evening, possibly between 6 and 8 pm.

Ingredients are coming together much more than anticipated this afternoon, thanks in large part to the sun peaking through. Because of this, as well as the way storms have fired so quickly over West Tennessee, SPC opted to issue the Severe Thunderstorm Watch, with primary concerns being large hail and damaging winds.
EDITED WITH NEW INFORMATION
The Storm Prediction Center in their 3 pm Day 1 Outlook update upgraded our severe weather risk, not surprisingly, from Marginal Risk to Slight Risk.
Our main threat now appears to be large hail, with damaging winds still a concern, though not as significant one as large hail. An isolated tornado threat has also been introduced, albeit a small one.

Stay weather-aware as we go through the rest of the afternoon and evening. Once this evening’s storms move through, we won’t necessarily be done yet…
More scattered showers and storms look to be possible Monday morning, with more storms likely throughout the day and perhaps lingering into the evening hours.
