Senator Bob Corker Visited with Smith County Leaders

March 30, 2016

(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On Thursday, March 24, Republican Senator Bob Corker met with several leaders of Smith County at the Smith County Chamber of Commerce for breakfast. Senator Corker spoke to the leaders about how severe the country’s deficit is. Mayor Nesbitt asked Senator Corker if there were any plans in place to try to balance the federal budget. Corker responded, “Right now, we are going in no direction and over the next 10 years there will be an estimated increase to the deficit of over $9.6 Trillion.” He explained how the federal government’s entitlement programs are depleting federal funds, but neither democrats nor republicans want to touch the issue because it effects too much of the voting class. Senator Corker explained a few proposals he had created to help control the federal deficit by slowly and gradually tweaking some of the entitlement programs to save money over time.
