He has served as a first responder for 4 years.

Smith County First Responder Cody Johnson

SCI: When did you realize this is what you wanted to do?

CJ: As a kid, I saw someone collapse, and it angered me not knowing what to do.

SCI: What is the best thing about your job?

CJ: The teamwork! Taking a terrible situation with so many people doing so many things in concert to accomplish the same goal.

SCI: What is your proudest work accomplishment?

CJ: Being in a fast growing field of Emergency Services has allowed me to be a part of a pivotal moment in the medical field.

SCI: What advice would you give someone looking to go into your field?

CJ: Look into the ride along program. Also be a part of Smith County’s EMR program; they are the difference between life and death in many situations. There are many times that EMS takes 15 minutes to get to some places, where EMR start life-saving procedures, giving the patient a chance.

SCI: What are your favorite hobbies and activities outside of work?

CJ: Spending time convincing people I have the greatest wife! Also, I have the greatest wife!

SCI: Is there anything else you want to share with the readers of Smith County Insider?

CJ: The support Smith County gives to their First Responders is second to none, from the excellence of the EMR program, to the Sheriff’s Department AED program, and even the cross training of the Fire Department, EMS, and Rescue allows us to do our job to the peak ability. Thank you, Smith County!

Thank you for your dedication and service to Smith County, Cody!
