Smith County High School Owls and Lady Owls Soccer teams would like to say thank you to all the campers, parents, and everyone involved in putting on a productive and fun Soccer youth skills camp this year. 90 campers from grades K-8th met up for three days to be instructed by coaches and high school players.
The high school teams have both been very successful in recent years and are expanding the number of players being offered college scholarships each and every year. We are very proud of these two high school teams and the success they continue to produce. The players that came out and volunteered to help with the camp, worked around work schedules and many are in their off season, so it just shows the dedication to the sport and how invested they are to see the next generation succeed. The campers were coached in the fundamentals, like passing, dribbling, throw ins, etc., as well as how to be part of a team.
It is great to have individual skills but more importantly soccer is about using those skills in a team driven process. These lessons all translate into real life as well. The future looks very bright for Smith County Soccer at all levels, and we hope more kids will discover how fun and rewarding this sport can be. We look forward to next year’s camp and hope to see many of the campers on the various community league teams. — Submitted by Vivian Schaffers
