Tristan Nixon
Smith County High School student Tristan Nixon was recently chosen as a semi-finalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is highly prestigious and competitive, and only 16,000 high school seniors qualified as semi-finalists in 2018.
Approximately 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served an initial screen of program entrants.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than 1% of US high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state.
Nixon will now compete for the National Merit Scholarship offered in the spring.
