The Smith County High School HOSA club has chosen a new community service project for the 2016-2017 school year. The team leading this new project consists of Maddy Legassie, Dalton Ausderau, Logan Dyer and Dustin Miller. This year’s project is being called Community Cubbies. The project was first presented to the administration at Smith County High School in September and then to the Smith County Board of Education at the October board meeting for approval. The club plans to build 8 cubbies throughout the year and have them installed around the county, close to the schools. The cubbies will be filled with non-perishable food items,toiletries, and seasonal essentials such as hats and mittens during the winter. Team member Maddy Legassie says,”Our ultimate goal of the cubbies is to provide the basic needs to those who need it most, especially in times of desperation.” The club has the first 2 cubbies built and anticipates they will both be installed prior to Christmas break. The HOSA club is currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to help in any of the following capacities: donated material for construction of cubbies, volunteers to build, and donated items to fill cubbies.
