It was the SCHS graduating class of 1972 that turned the familiar sign of the time into something with an entirely different meaning. The peace sign, two fingers up, became for us the “DEUCE” sign and those who shared it were members of the graduating class of ’72! We used it as a greeting, a goodbye, and as an acknowledgement of belonging to a special group of young adults embarking on a new life adventure. To see the sign and hear the word “DEUCE” was to know that something strange, chaotic, or laughable was about to transpire.
The summer of ‘72 was filled with much excitement as 21 graduates married the “love of their life” and began families. Many others prepared for college and careers while others went directly to work. What a rude awakening we had as we left that comfortable and familiar environment of SCHS! Those who left Smith County went as far as Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Mobile, Charlotte, St. Louis, Atlanta, Pensacola, and Washington D.C.
We are proud of all our accomplishments. They include, Attorneys, Nurses, Ministers, Hygienists, Bankers, Small Business Owners, Sales, Coaches, Teachers, Farmers, and a DJ in Vegas, to name a few. Oh, and let us celebrate the DEUCE who has 27 grandchildren!
As September 3, 2016 quickly approaches we realize our 5th, 10th, and 20th reunions are far behind us. So far gone that we must have forgotten about our 40th and allowed it to slip by. So why should we have a 44th reunion? Why not? Why wait for 50? We don’t have to wait because we are the Class of ’72; strange, chaotic, and laughable.
If you are a “DEUCE” please join us on September 3, 2016, from 6-9PM at the Smith County AG CENTER. A strange, chaotic, and laughable time is planned with dinner catered by WRIGHT BROTHERS. We will throw down on some BAR-B-Q, taters, baked beans, slaw, roll, and SWEET TEA. The cost is $15/ person. Everyone will have a nametag with their senior picture so we can recognize one another!
The DEUCE REUNION TEAM has planned a great time where sweet memories will be shared, so don’t miss it!
