April 1, 2019

Coach Trey Sanders will take over as head coach of the SCHS boys basketball team.

Trey Sanders has been appointed head coach of the Smith County High School boys basketball team.

Sanders comes to the Smith County High School program following a 12-season coaching stint at Gordonsville High School.

Coach Sanders led the Tigers to a 17-14 overall record last season.

“We are pleased to announce Trey Sanders is the new head coach of the Smith County High School boys basketball program,” said SCHS principal Tim Towns. “Coach Sanders is well known and respected in the Smith County community and in the basketball coaching profession.”

“We feel he is a good fit for our school and will be an excellent influence on the young men in our program,” Towns remarked.

“I am so excited to have the opportunity to return to SCHS,” Coach Sanders told Smith County Insider. “I would like to thank Mr. Towns and Mr. Apple for giving me the opportunity to continue to coach. I had the opportunity to meet with the team and those who are interested in playing, and I am looking forward to working with them and getting to know them.”

Sanders will begin leading the Owls during the 2019-2020 season.
