Sergeant Ridge Long and Deputy Robbie Woodard conducted a routine traffic stop for a vehicle with tags that were improperly displayed on I40 at mile marker 255. The driver identified as Kristen P. Smith. Upon being asked to present vehicle and drivers paperwork, she stated that she was currently on probation in Smith County. She had recently been released from jail.
Active warrants from Putnam and Wilson County for Smith were discovered, however an initial search of the vehicle was clean. While placing Smith under arrest for the active warrants, she requested that the power be turned off manually to the after-market radio in the car. Upon pushing the button on the radio, it began to shift into dash. Further investigation led to the discovery of a void near the radio that contained a set of digital scales with drug residue and approximately 11 grams of methamphetamine.
Smith was transported to the Smith County Correctional Center for booking. Smith was charged and held with violation of probation, felony possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.
