On the night of May 9, 2022 officers were dispatched to call in the Oak Hill Lane area of Carthage regarding a domestic dispute in which 3-5 shots may have been fired.
Several officers responded to the call including Deputy Layne Silcox, who was originally dispatched and Detectives Steve Babcock, Detective Dusty Hailey and Sergeant Gregory.
After questioning the residents it was reported that Ms. Sonja Thrower had been trespassing on the property and was asked to leave. While leaving she fired a handgun into the air. One of the residents of the property fired a shotgun in the air in an attempt to encourage Thrower to leave the property.
Thrower and another occupant of the car were confronted by Sergeant Gregory while attempting to to leave the property and advised to stay. The vehicle was searched with consent. Methamphetamine paraphernalia and 4.8 grams of methamphetamine were found. Thrower was arrested and transported to the Smith County Criminal Justice Center. She was charged with reckless endangerment, criminal trespassing, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a firearm while under the influence and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a $13,000 bond and schedule to appear in court at a later date.
