Funeral services for Mr. James Lillard Bass, Jr, were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2020, at the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes, with burial following in the Gordonsville Cemetery.

Mr. James L. Bass passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020, at the age of 98.

A Smith County native, World War II veteran, longtime lawyer, and author, Mr. Bass leaves behind quite a legacy.

We are so thankful for the extraordinary life that Mr. Bass lived and the stories that he shared. We will continue to tell his story as a vital part of Smith County’s proud history.
