Preparations are underway for the 50th Anniversary Class Reunion of the Smith County High School Class of 1970.
“The reunion committee has begun planning our reunion. It will be here before we know it,” said Brian Reid, 1970 Class President. “We wanted to get a jump on things to insure everything was right.”
The committee consists of Kathy Lewis Beachboard, Helen Thomas Nichols, Randall Clemons, Judy Ford DiSalvo, Matilda Anderson Graves, Jane Woodard Hall, Gordon Hire, Patricia (Pert) Nixon Underwood, Nancy Johnson White, Beth Sloan Wilburn, and Steve Wilmore.
The reunion will be held in Granville, TN, 15 miles from Carthage, on the traditional reunion date, the Saturday before Mother’s Day, May 9, 2020.
The site is owned by Randall Clemons and is at the corner of Granville Highway and Clover Street, overlooking the Cumberland River. There will be plenty of free parking in front of the building.
“We have had functions of over 100 people there in the past without any issues,” said Clemons.
Plans include catered food and a DJ playing songs from the late 60s – early 70s. Also planned will be a photographer to commemorate the event.
“Since Randall is donating the use of the building for his class, we hope to keep the cost to the classmates and their spouses/friends to a minimum. We want as many to come celebrate our reunion as possible,” said Reid.
“It’s a perfect place for the reunion,” said Nancy Johnson White.
For those coming from out of town, there are two B&Bs in Granville within easy walking distance of the event site. In addition, cabins are available at the local marina. More information about lodging can be obtained at: granvillebandb.com (931-653-4511) and wildwoodresorttn.com (931-653-4360).
A Facebook page is set up for information about the event: ‘SCHS Class of ’70 Reunion’ as things progress.
