Two people were arrested on numerous drug charges after being found asleep in their vehicle on Kemp Bottom Road last Sunday, January 22.
Deputy Dakota Hunter of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Kemp Bottom Road following a report of a vehicle in that area with two individuals asleep inside with the interior light on.
Hunter made contact with the vehicle across the Kemp Bottom Bridge parked off the side of the road with its interior light on.
As Hunter walked to the driver side back window, he noticed that there was a loaded needle and a spoon with some resin in the center console in plain view.
Hunter made contact with the driver, identified as 29-year-old Joshua Barr of Lebanon, and asked him what he was doing.
According to the arrest warrant, Barr stated that he and his girlfriend, identified as 32-year-old Kerri West of Lebanon, were resting on the side of the road for a few minutes.
Dispatch advised Hunter that Barr had a suspended license, and West’s came back revoked.
According to the arrest warrant, Hunter asked Barr if there was anything illegal inside the vehicle that he needed to know about, to which he stated no.
Hunter advised both Barr and West to step out of the vehicle and that a search would be conducted.
According to the arrest warrant, Hunter asked both of them again if there was anything in the vehicle besides the loaded needle that he needed to know about, and both Barr and West stated that there might be a few needles in the car, but they did not know where.
Upon search of the vehicle, Hunter located a Crown Royal bag with 35 needles in it. Four of the needles were used — two of which were loaded with a clear substance in them.
In a pink purse with black and white zebra print, a silver tin case with a black Playboy sticker was located that contained 20 Lisinopril, 6 Gabapentin, 8 Diazepam, a small bag with marijuana, a small bag containing a white powder substance, 95 Sudafed pills, a bottle of Amlodipine that was prescribed to West but had over-the-counter drugs — Acetaminophen and Famotide — in it, and 2 digital scales.
Hunter and Sgt. Nick Gillian field tested both loaded needles and the bag containing white substance, which all tested positive for methamphetamine.
Barr and West were both placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
Barr is charged with felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule IV, possession of schedule VI, two counts of possession of schedule II, possession of legend drug without prescription and promotion of methamphetamine.
He is being held on $60,000 bond.
West is charged with two counts of possession of schedule II, two counts of possession of legend drug without prescription, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, promotion of methamphetamine, possession of schedule IV and possession of schedule VI.
She is being held on $45,000 bond.
