Passenger Arrested After Drugs Were Found During A Traffic Stop

On March 12, Deputy Matt White stopped a vehicle traveling on I-40 for speeding at excessive speeds. Upon making contact with the driver, Mr. Austin Whittum, and the passenger, Ms. Hope Clark, Deputy White asked the them to step out of the vehicle due to the odor of marijuana.

A probably cause search was conducted on the vehicle. The search revealed 3.2 grams of  suspected marijuana, two sets of scales, one grinder, one container for marijuana wax, and three pipes with residue. Also located inside the vehicle was a bag containing psilocybin mushrooms. Ms. Hope Clark claimed the property as hers. 

Additionally a bag containing a white powder substance that weighed approximately 9 grams was found. This substance did not test positive for any feild tests and is beinh sent to the TBI for further testing. 

Ms. Clark was placed under arrest and was transported to the Smith County Jail for booking.

Ms. Clark is charged with MFG/ DEL/SELL Controlled Substances, Possession of controlled substances, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia

Mr. Austin Whittum was issued a Tennessee State Citation for speeding and failure to provide financial responsibility. 

Both are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
