Parked car, police chase results in multiple charges including possession of methamphetamine

On December 12th, Sergeant Ridge Long observed a vehicle parked at the shell gas station in Gordonsville. Upon further inspection of the vehicle’s tags, it was shown that the driver was Mr. Derek N. Shortt. Shortt currently was on a revoked license, and had warrants for his arrest for possession of meth and resisting arrest. 

While trying to make contact with the vehicle, it sped onto I-40 east. The vehicle turned off I-40 and got onto Alexandria Highway. After being stopped Sgt. Long made contact with the driver and confirmed it was Mr. Shortt with an ID check. A search of Shortt’s person resulted in the discovery of a used syringe in his left pocket. 

The search of the vehicle resulted in the following discoveries: 0.6 grams of methamphetamine a methamphetamine pipe, and a cut straw both containing residue. Mr Shortt’s license is currently revoked due to failure to pay fines. Shortt had outstanding warrants. and was sent to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking.
