(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – On Monday, December 7, the news that the zinc mines had shut their doors had spread to news media in Nashville. Two local stations sent reporters to Smith County to cover this devastating event. Both News Channel 5 and Fox 17 interviewed County Mayor, Michael Nesbitt. Mayor Nesbitt stressed that even though the closure was devastating, there are more jobs currently available in the surrounding areas, than when the mine previously closed in 2002.
