Narcotics Investigation Conducted via Facebook leads to Several Drug-Related Arrests

(Smith County Insider Press) – On May 12, 2020, Sergeant Ridge Long and Sergeant Junior Fields conducted a Narcotics investigation via Facebook Messenger after being given consent to do so by a citizen informant. During the investigation, Messenger was used to buy and sell narcotics.

Justin Devante King

According to the police report, Justin King (23, Celina) agreed to buy $30 worth and trade some “smoke” (marijuana) for methamphetamine. King stated he would be coming from Sparta, and when asked how much marijuana he had to trade he stated, “Enough.” King stated he would meet in the Carthage McDonald’s parking lot. When making contact with King in the parking lot, the odor of raw marijuana could be smelled coming from the vehicle. King was detained, and 22 grams of marijuana, a grinder, and a set of digital scales were found in the vehicle. King stated all items found belonged to him, and he was placed under arrest and transferred to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

William Daniel Oshrin

William Oshrin (27, Mount Juliet) agreed to buy a total of 4.6 grams of methamphetamine for $200.00. According to the police report, Oshrin agreed to meet at Pilot in Gordonsville. When officers made contact with Oshrin, he was holding $200.0 in his left hand. After being detained, several used syringes were found on Oshrin’s person. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking. Once arriving in the sally port, additional syringes were found on Oshrin’s person.

Stephen Bradley Fitts

Stephen Brad Fitts (28, Brush Creek) agreed to buy 3.6 grams of methamphetamine and to sell $40.00 worth of marijuana (approximately 2 grams). Upon making contact with Fitts on Gordonsville Highway, a traffic stop was initiated. After Fitts was detained, he was asked where the money and narcotics were. Fitts stated that when he saw the blue lights of the patrol unit, he threw the money and drugs out of the passenger window. During a search of the area, 0.5 grams of heroin was found along with approximately 5 grams of marijuana, Xanax pills, and a set of digital scales. During a search of the vehicle, approximately 40 Gabapentin pills were found in the center console as well as two firearms in the backseat. Fitts was placed under arrest and taken to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking.

Corey Thomas Courtney

Daisy M Davis

Corey Courtney (31, Gordonsville) agreed to meet in Defeated to purchase an eight ball of meth for $140.00. Courtney stated he had a partner who would be with him to buy the meth and that he would need to stop and get money on his way from Red Boiling Springs. Upon making contact with Courtney, who was driving, and his passenger, Daisy Davis (35, Red Boiling Springs), in the area of Defeated Creek Park both were detained. A set of brass knuckles were found on Courtney’s person. During a search of the vehicle and Davis’s purse, $200.00 was found along with an ATM receipt which correlated with the time the messages were sent from Courtney. A search of Davis’s phone showed messages in which she and Courtney had conspired to purchase the meth together. Both were arrested and taken to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking.
