On Wednesday, July 5, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a single vehicle MVA around the 263 mile marker east bound on I-40.
When authorities arrived on scene, they found a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe off a ravine on the left side of the roadway. The vehicle was traveling East on I-40, when it lost control and flipped over the guard rail. The driver of the vehicle was ejected.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Cindy Miramontes-Lewis, 31, of South Carolina. Miramontes-Lewis was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by Smith County EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
Charges are pending at this time.
Dale’s Towing and recovery removed the vehicle from the scene.
A tractor trailer truck crashed following the Tahoe due to traffic being backed up. The truck was traveling east when it quickly approached stopping traffic. To prevent from striking other vehicles, the truck swerved left and struck the cable barriers. The truck was hauling a full load of sand. No one was injured in wreck.
M&W Towing removed the truck from the scene.
I-40 was shut down to one lane for several hours and was backed up over 10 miles at times due to the wrecks.
