On March 14th, K9 Sgt. Ridge Long conducted a traffic stop in the area of Alexandria Highway. Sgt. Long observed the driver, identified as Carol Cowan, behaving erratically while smoking a freshly lit cigarette and searching for the requested identifying paperwork.
Sgt. Long requested to search the vehicle. Cowan consented. A baggie of .88 grams of methamphetamine, another bag with .16 grams of methamphetamine and two additional bags with residue were discovered. Cowan was arrested and transported to the Smith County Justice Center.
Upon arriving to the facilities, Cowan admitted to having a Xanax pill in her bag for which she did not have a prescription. Cowan was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of methamphetamine. She was released on a $600 bond and must appear at later court dates.
