Sergeant Junior Fields initiated a traffic stop of a white 2002 Nissan Frontier. After running the the name of the driver it was determined that Kenneth WIngate had no valid drivers license. Due to the nature of the stop both the driver and passenger identified as Anesha Whittaker were asked to exit the vehicle and consent to search the vehicle was granted by Mr. Wingate.
Upon searching the vehicle a black zippered bag was found on the back of the truck in a tool bag containing 1.62 grams of methamphetamine, 1 buprenorphine sublingual film and three used hypodermic syringes. Addition drugs were found in Whittakers purse including 11 gabapentin pills. Mr. Wingate indicated to officers that the couple was on their way to Nashville to acquire methamphetamine. Both Wingate and Whittaker were arrested and transported to Smith County Jail.
Whittaker was charged with 2 counts of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine possession and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. Wingate was charged with driving without a license, methamphetamine possession and possession of a controlled substance. Additionally since the vehicle and the $187.00 of US currency found in their possession was found while attempting to transport and facilitate a drug deal the vehicle and money was seized. Both have pending court dates.
