(Smith County Insider Press) — A traffic stop made for driving on a suspended license led to the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia Thursday, June 29.
Sgt. Junior Fields of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office made a stop on a 1998 BMW after observing Robert Angel (39, Carthage) driving, whose license is currently suspended for failure to provide financial responsibility out of Carthage, which Fields confirmed upon making the stop.
Upon stopping the vehicle, Fields requested consent to search, which was refused by Angel, according to the arrest warrant.
After having all occupants exit the vehicle, Fields requested consent from passenger Adrienne Gray (24, Carthage) to search her purse, which she also refused, according to the arrest warrant.
Fields deployed K-9 Constance for a free air sniff, at which the K-9 showed a positive indication on the back passenger side of the vehicle.
A search of Gray’s purse revealed a hypodermic syringe, orange string “used for helping to shoot up” and a small, pink round cylinder with white residue inside identified as methamphetamine by Gray, according to the arrest warrant.
Gray was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
Prior to transport, Angel was issued a state citation for Driving on a Suspended License.
Gray is charged with Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Controlled Substances.
