(Smith County Insider Press) DEFEATED, Tenn. — A Hartsville man was arrested after methamphetamine was discovered in his vehicle at the Defeated Creek campground Thursday, May 4.
Deputy Nathan Williams of the Smith County Sheriff’s Office came in contact with a white Nissan pickup truck parked at the Defeated Creek campground area.
Williams checked on the vehicle and made contact with two individuals who appeared to be asleep and proceeded to wake them up for a welfare check.
According to the arrest warrant, Williams noticed a Sprite can in plain view in the middle console that had a filter and white residue on top of it.
Williams spoke with the driver, identified as Philip Harrison (35, Hartsville), and had him exit the vehicle.
Williams obtained Harrison’s identification, and after running his information through dispatch, his driver’s license came back revoked, according to the arrest warrant.
Upon search of the vehicle, Williams located a small baggie with a crystal-like substance inside that appeared to be methamphetamine. Also located were several used syringes.
According to the arrested warrant, Harrison advised Williams that the small baggie was in fact meth, and they had been using the syringes to inject the methamphetamine.
Harrison was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
The crystal-like substance was sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation lab for testing.
Harrison is charged with possession of schedule II, driving on revoked and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
