Man Tasered When Resisting Arrest

September 12, 2015

(Smith County Insider Press) Dixon Springs, Tenn. – On September 5, Sgt. Junior Fields of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department was traveling on Dixon Springs Highway when he observed Anthony Grisham walking down the road toward McCrary Court. When passing Grisham, Sgt. Fields observed him step out in front of a vehicle, causing it to come to a stop in the roadway. Sgt. Fields turned around and approached Mr. Grisham. While speaking to Grisham on the side of the road, Sgt. Fields asked him if he had anything illegal on his person. (About a month prior, Sgt. Fields has assisted the Tennessee Highway Patrol with arresting Grisham for possession of hypodermic syringes.) Grisham stated that he did not have anything illegal on him. Sgt. Fields asked that Mr. Grisham empty the contents of his pockets and place them on the hood of his patrol unit and he refused. Sgt. Fields ordered that Grisham turn his pockets inside out, at which time, Grisham took a hypodermic syringe out of his pocket and placed it on the patrol car. At that time, Sgt. Fields attempted to search Grisham’s person, and located two Suboxone Sublingual Films in his front pocket. Grisham then became very combative and attempted to pull away from Sgt. Fields. Sgt. Fields grabbed his shirt and Grisham continued to fight. Sgt. Fields then deployed his taser and advised Grisham that he would be tasered if he did not stop resisting. Grisham did not comply to the demand, so Sgt. Fields fired his taser at Grisham, and he fell to the ground. While attempting to cuff Grisham, he again attempted to get up, and Sgt. Fields tasered him again. After being tased a second time, Grisham stated that he had had enough, and we was taken into custody without further resistance.

Sheriff Steve Hopper and Deputy Steven Ray arrived on scene to assist Sgt. Fields.

Anthony Grisham was arrested and transported to Smith County Jail Facility for booking.

Grisham was cited for resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
