Man shot, killed during gun store burglary

Around 11:30pm on Sunday night, Smith County 911 received a call reporting a burglary at Patriot Gun & Pawn located at 303 Dixon Springs Highway in Carthage, TN. The Smith County Sheriff’s Office, Carthage Police Department, and the South Carthage Police Department responded to the call. When authorities arrived on scene, they found a male subject on the ground in front of the store.

Reportedly, three individuals broke into Patriot Gun and Pawn where they were met inside the store by the owner, Brian Ferguson. One of the subjects was shot and killed during the attempted burglary.

The deceased subject is believed to be an 18 year old male from the Murfreesboro area.

The other two subjects fled the scene in a vehicle on Highway 25 toward Hartsville.

Limited information was immediately available due to the incident still being under investigation and because the two subjects still remain at large. The two other subjects are not believed to be from the Smith County area.
