A Carthage man was arrested after drugs were found in his possession during a traffic stop last Friday, September 2.
Officer Heath Willard of the South Carthage Police Department was on routine patrol when he observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed past the Abundant Harvest Center, where he was parked. Willard clocked the vehicle’s speed at 73 mph on his radar. The speed limit in the area was 45 mph.
Willard initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle at the entrance of Cumberland Cove.
According to Willard, as he was approaching the vehicle, he noticed “the subject inside was taking off his shirts in a very fast manner and seemed out of the ordinary.” As he made contact with the driver, he asked him “why he was taking off his shirts like that so fast.” The driver stated that “he just cut off the car and got hot.”
As Willard was waiting for the man to hand all of his information over, he noticed two orange capsules which he believed to be Lyrica, a Schedule V drug. Willard asked the driver what it was, and he stated he believed it was Lyrica, according to the report.
Willard placed the man, identified as 19-year-old Quentin Donnell of Carthage, under arrest. At this time, Donnell came forward and stated that he had a bag of marijuana in his pants, according to the report.
Donnell was transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
He is charged with Simple Possession of Schedule VI and Possession of Schedule V.
