The Smith County Sheriff’s Department received a call on Saturday, September 10, reporting a man found dead in a vehicle in near the Grant Community.
Authorities arrived on scene and found a Toyota Prius on a log road near Hix Road with a deceased male in the front drivers seat. Deputies checked the vehicle’s tag information in the NCIC data base and it was discovered that Metro Nashville Police Department had put a BOLO (Be On Look Out) for the owner of that vehicle, due to the man being missing from Virginia and potentially suicidal and armed.
A resident that lived near the log road saw the vehicle parked on the road on Monday, September 5, but did not contact authorities until Saturday.
The Tennessee State Medical Examiner’s Office was called to the scene due to the body being so decomposed.
Sheriff Steve Hopper told Smith County Insider that foul play was not suspected. Hopper stated that it is unknown why the man was in Smith County and that there are no known ties to the area.
