A man travelling along Interstate 40 was arrested Saturday following a witness report of him driving recklessly.
The witness observed a maroon Honda Accord driving recklessly all over the roadway from mile marker 322 to 258. The witness was concerned the man driving the vehicle would end up crashing.
Trooper Chris DeLong responded to the report and initiated a stop on the vehicle in question.
Upon making contact with the driver, identified as 32-year-old Eric Walrath of Columbia, Tennessee, DeLong noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and that he appeared to be intoxicated.
Walrath was given field sobriety tests, to which he performed poorly on. He was placed under arrest.
During DeLong investigation with Walrath, he stated he had a handgun in the vehicle located between the driver seat and the middle console.
During search of the vehicle, a pill bottle was located with a plastic bag inside. Inside the plastic bag was a green, leafy substance which appeared to be marijuana.
Walrath was transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
He is charged with Possession of Firearm While Under the Influence, Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Simple Possession of Schedule VI.
