(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On November 3, Deputy Jimmy Gregory of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to a home on Earl Steele Rd. for a reported unruly child. Upon arrival, Deputy Gregory spoke to the 13-year-old child. After speaking with the child, it was determined that the child had been unruly because the father had allegedly shot it in the head with a BB gun. The child also stated that it had been allegedly punched in the back by the father, two months prior. (Due to the victim being under the age of 18, the gender of the child can not be identified)
The father of the child was identified as Joshua Lynch. The mother of the child gave a statement, confirming that the child had been punched in the back two months ago. Joshua Lynch wrote a statement admitting to shooting the child in the head with the BB gun.
Mr. Lynch was arrested and transported to Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
Mr. Lynch was charged with Child Abuse and Domestic Assault. His bond was set at $5000.
