A Gordonsville man was arrested last week after an unnecessary call was made to 911.
Officer Jason Kemp with the Gordonsville Police Department was dispatched Main Street E. in Gordonsville about a 911 call regarding a fight during the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 25.
Upon arriving, Kemp spoke to the man who allegedly made the call, identified as 41-year-old Jason Watts. According to Kemp’s report, Watts had a very strong odor of alcohol about his person and was very unsteady on his feet. Watts was found outside in his driveway by a public road.
According to Kemp’s report, Watts denied making any calls to 911 and told Kemp to check his phone to see if he called 911 from his phone. Upon checking his phone, Kemp found that Watts had called 911 at 12:21 am and had stayed on the phone for five minutes.
According to the report, Watts was “very belligerent with the dispatcher and not making any sense and stated he needed an ambulance due to the supposed fight.” According to the report, Watts stated to Kemp that a fight had not occurred.
Watts was placed under arrest for being a danger to himself and others due to him being so intoxicated by a public road at night, and for calling 911 for “no legitimate reason that delayed law enforcement and EMS personnel from responding to other emergencies,” according to Kemp’s report.
Watts was transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking. He is charged with public intoxication and abuse of 911 system.
