Man arrested after pills, two pounds of marijuana located inside vehicle

(Smith County Insider Press)—On October 25, 2018, Smith County Sheriff’s Department Sergeant Jimmy Gregory responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Ben Gentry Lane and Sonterra Lane in Elmwood, Tennessee. Elijah B. Arnold (36, Elmwood) was arrested as a result of the investigation.

According to the police report, Sergeant Gregory made contact with the suspicious vehicle just after 8:00 p.m. The vehicle was pulled into a residential driveway and was partially blocking the roadway.

Arnold appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel with the vehicle still in drive. As Sergeant Gregory approached, Arnold put the car in park and opened the door. Sergeant Gregory immediately noticed a strong odor of marijuana.

According to the police report, Arnold handed Sergeant Gregory a one pound bag of marijuana. During a search of the vehicle, another pound of marijuana was found, along with 15 Buprenorphine pills, 39 Alprazolam pills, 7 Oxycodone pills, 3 sets of digital scales, 30 hypodermic needles, and a bag full of small plastic baggies.

According to the police report, Arnold could not provide a prescription for any of the pills, and he failed to sufficiently perform a field sobriety test.

Arnold was placed under arrest and transported to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for booking. After arriving at the Smith County Jail, a correctional officer located 5 Suboxone strips inside Arnold’s boot.

Arnold is charged with three counts of manufacture/delivery/sale of a controlled substance, one count of felony possession of drug paraphernalia, one count of driving under the influence, and one count of introduction of contraband into jail.
