An Alexandria man was arrested following a traffic stop on Interstate 40 on drug and driving while revoked charges.
Trooper Brandon Jackson with the Tennessee Highway Patrol stopped a maroon Chevy S-10 for following too close on I-40 on Thursday, November 10.
Upon contact with the driver, identified as 53-year-old James Markham, he stated he didn’t have a license and instead produced an I.D. card, according to Jackson’s report.
An NCIC (National Crime Information Center) check revealed Markham was revoked-habitual offender for DUI 3rd offense on July 4, 2011. He had 19 total suspensions/revocations on his license, going back to October 1991 for DUI. Markham’s previous Driving While Revoked offenses occurred on 9/15/1997, 6/2/2000, 6/25/2005, 1/16/2008, 8/23/2008, and 7/4/2011 — for a total of six DWR offenses.
A search of Markham’s vehicle revealed a strong odor coming from the center console of the vehicle, according to the report. The console was removed, and in the void underneath it was a bag of green, leafy material appearing to be marijuana (schedule VI), according to the report, which later weighed in at 6.04 g. Also found was a pipe with residue and a pack of rolling papers.
Markham was arrested and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility for booking.
He is charged with possession of controlled substances (schedule VI), driving on revoked (7th offense) and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
