(Smith County Insider Press) ā€“ On May 12, 2020, Ptl. Stephen Enoch observed that a silver Honda Accord had been parked at Sonic in Carthage for at least 2 hours, and the driver of the vehicle was slumped over in the seat. Ptl. Enoch engaged in a casual encounter with the driver, Austin Henry (22, Elmwood).

According to the arrest warrant, Henry was very confused as to where he was or who Ptl. Enoch was. Henry was asked to exit the vehicle and was observed to be very unsteady on his feet with slow, slurred speech. Ptl. Enoch performed an officer safety pat down and located what was immediately thought to be a crack pipe in Henryā€™s pocket. Henry was detained at this time. The passenger of the vehicle, Angela Shouse (25, Carthage), was known to be on probation and was visibly nervous.

During a probable cause search of the vehicle, several items of paraphernalia, 5 Promethazine Hydrocloride, 2 Suboxone, 3 MDMA tablets, 0.3 grams of heroin, 3.7 grams of meth packaged for resale, and 2.4 grams of marijuana were found. All drugs were located within armā€™s reach of both the driver and passenger. Neither Henry nor Shouse claimed ownership.

Both Henry and Shouse were transported to the Smith County Jail for processing. When entering the jail, Henry was asked if there was anything on his person, and he stated there was not. The jailers found 2 small baggies of meth and 1 baggie of marijuana inside his boot.

Henry is charged with two counts Possession of Schedule I, three counts Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession of Methamphetamine, Public Intoxication, Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Introducing Contraband into Jail.

Shouse is charged with two counts Possession of Schedule I, three counts Possession of Controlled Substances, Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Bond Revocation.
