Smith County 4-H News – Katie Clark – UT Extension Agent
Smith County 4-H members, Jodie Morris and Cole Cantrell attended UT Extension’s 4-H Electric Camp in Knoxville, June 27-30.
Jodie and Cole were among over 265 youth representing counties from across the state. Delegates explored the world of energy, electricity and the basic sciences through fun-filled, hands-on learning experiences.
Campers learned about home energy conservation, green energy, electric vehicles, electrical safety, and even made their own extension cord.
In addition to learning about electricity and other basic sciences, the conference featured recreational activities on campus. 4-H’ers were treated to a pizza party, swimming, a movie night and an afternoon at Dollywood.
Electric Camp was held on the campus of The University of Tennessee and allowed 4-H’ers to experience dorm life and campus living. Delegates were able to make new friends, learn by doing, and have a wonderful time.
The 4-H Electric Camp is made possible through a unique partnership established between UT Extension; the Tennessee Electric Cooperative Association and its statewide member cooperatives; the Tennessee Municipal Electric Power Association and its municipal power system members from across the state; TVA; and other industry donors.
The 4-H Youth Development Program delivers programs through cooperative efforts of the University of Tennessee, Tennessee State University, and public and private sector volunteers. 4-H educational programs are offered to all youth, grades 4-12, on an age-appropriate basis, without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
