(Smith County Insider Press) Carthage, Tenn. – On Friday, November 20, the Smith County Sheriff’s Department received a BOLO (Be ON Look Out) from Wilson County Sheriff’s Department of a reported red pickup truck traveling east on Highway 70 at a high rate of speed with no tail lights. Deputy Nathan Williams of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department was traveling West on Highway 70 at the time of the reported BOLO.
Deputy Williams came in contact with a red GMS Sierra pickup truck that fit the description of the of the Wilson County BOLO. Deputy Williams initiated a traffic stop on the truck. Upon approaching the vehicle, Deputy Williams smelled a strong odor protruding from the vehicle that was believed to be marijuana. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Edward Doyle Coffee. Deputy Williams asked Coffee if he had any drugs in the vehicle, at which time he stated he had three marijuana cigarettes in a metal container. Deputy Williams then asked Coffee if he had any other drugs in the vehicle, at which time, Coffee stated that he had a duffel bag under the driver’s seat that had approximately one pound of marijuana inside.
At that time, Coffee was placed under arrest and transported to Smith County Jail Facility for booking. Approximately one pound of marijuana was seized from the truck.
Coffee was charged with possession of Schedule VI.
