“The Fair on the River,” otherwise known as the Smith County Fair, is just a few days away. Here’s a few things the fair board and volunteers have been working on for our kids and families to enjoy July 31 – August 5 at the Smith County Fair.
Kids and families who love rides and games will enjoy the carnival which begins on Monday night. From personal experience I can tell you that if you take your kids, go ahead and spring for the armband, it’s easily the cheapest way to go.
Kids & families who love animals will enjoy a new event, the rabbit show on Monday night, along with some old favorites such as the Poultry Show, the Open Beef Show, the Draft Horse & Mule Show, the Meat Goat Show, and the Sheep Show.
Kids & families who love outdoor events will enjoy another new event, the Archery Competition on the first Saturday evening of the fair, along with the Kids Olympics, the Warrior by the River Mud Run, the Cornhole Tournament, and Kayak Race.
Kids & families who love loud noises and cool machines will enjoy the Auto Extraction Demonstration, the 4-Wheeler Races, the Demolition Derby, and the Tractor and Truck Pulls.
Kids & Families who love some friendly competition will enjoy bringing their homemade, homegrown, and home cooked items to be judged. We will have competition among field crops, fruits & vegetables, and much more in the Agriculture Show. Family & Consumer Sciences Exhibits will include sewing, crafts, photography, cooking, and much more.
Our K-12 youth can get in on the fun by bringing their crafts, food, and photographs as well. Don’t forget about your 4-H Exhibits and Posters when thinking about items to enter. Speaking of 4-H, this year our 4-H members will be selling hot dogs, ice cream, and hot fudge cake out of the Ag Center kitchen so be sure and stop by to support them!
The bottom line is that kids and families who love spending time with each other will have a great time and make memories to last a lifetime at the Smith County Fair.
