(Smith County Insider Press) Hickman, TENN. — A Kentucky man found asleep inside a vehicle parked partially in the roadway was arrested Wednesday, April 12.
Deputies Terrance Adams and Nick Campbell of the Smith County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to Hickman square for a vehicle partially in the roadway.
Upon arriving at the scene, Adams and Campbell made contact with a white Ford parked partially in the roadway with its driver side window broken into and the ignition having been tampered with.
A male was located inside asleep with an odor “one would associate with alcohol” coming from within the vehicle, according to the arrest warrant.
Upon waking the male subject up, Campbell inquired about his name and date of birth.
According to the arrest warrant, the subject had slurred speech and blood shot eyes and advised the name of Dexter Caney.
The subject was asked several times about the spelling of the name given, and he did state the spelling was correct, according to the arrest warrant.
Upon having dispatch run the information given, no information was found, according to the arrest warrant. At this time, Campbell had dispatch run the information out of Kentucky and Florida, per information given by the subject.
Again, no information was found on the subject.
Campbell once again asked the subject about the spelling of his name, in which he again stated the spelling was correct, according to the arrest warrant.
At this time, Campbell detained the subject and inquired about his identity.
According to the arrest warrant, the subject refused to give any other information on his identity.
The subject was placed in the back of Campbell’s patrol car while the investigation continued.
Sgt. Gillilan had dispatch contact Davidson County to have them check the residence of the vehicle in question. Davidson County did advise back that the vehicle was indeed stolen out of their county.
The vehicle was towed by Dale’s Towing with a hold placed it.
The subject was arrested and transported to the Smith County Jail Facility to be fingerprinted to verify his identity and for booking.
He was later identified as 29-year-old Dexter Gainey of Irvington, Kentucky.
Gainey is charged with criminal impersonation, buy/sell/rec/poss stolen property and public intoxication.
