Joey and Jan Bowman of Cumberland Valley Realty & Auction happily announce retirement

After 26 and 23 years, respectively, in the real estate business, Joey and Jan Bowman are ready to call it a day.

Joey Bowman, owner of Cumberland Valley Realty and Auction in Gordonsville, has worked in real estate since he was 29 years old.

In 1996, he and Robert Waggoner were tasked with opening a Smith County branch of Cumberland Real Estate, an agency based in Lebanon. In 1998, Joey bought in as part owner of the company.

In the meantime in 1997, Joey was so busy that he realized he needed help, and he could think of no one better to turn to than his wife Jan.

In 2001, Joey sold out his partnership interest in Cumberland Real Estate and began Cumberland Valley Realty & Auction with Jan by his side… and the rest is history!

As the two look toward retirement at the end of the year, they told Smith County Insider that they want to spend their time traveling, being involved in their church, catching up on farm and house work, spending time with their six grandchildren, and sipping coffee on the porch with their goldendoodle Abby by their side.

In fact, the two had custom coffee mugs made to commemorate the occasion. Joey’s says, “A Realtor Legend has Retired!” and Jan’s says, “Never mess with an old woman who is also a retired realtor!”

Throughout the years (That’s 49 combined years of real estate experience, to be exact!) Joey and Jan have accumulated enough accolades and awards to fill a conference room table.

As the door closes for Joey and Jan’s business, another door is opening for the Gordonsville Veterinary Clinic to expand into the rest of the building…more on that coming soon!

Joey and Jan Bowman are certainly not strangers to hard work, and their years of hard work has come to this: retiring with big smiles on their faces and plenty to be proud of.
