On March 26th, Sgt. Junior Fields conducted an investigation into Billy Edwards who had committed to deliver an ounce of methamphetamine to an agreed upon location. Sgt. Fields worked with Deputy Ray Biggs and Deputy Jordan Green to conduct the investigation.
On route, Edwards advised he would only be able to deliver 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine. Sgt. Fields observed the vehicle Edwards indicated he would be traveling in pull into the parking lot of the Gordonsville McDonalds. After the vehicle circled the building and parked, Sgt. Fields made contact with the vehicle. A gray Subaru and two male occupants were detained.
Edwards was searched and a marijuana pipe was located in his pants pocket. The other occupant was identified as Richard Dutra. His cell phone was being used to communicate the details of the drug exchange. Officers searched the vehicle and discovered two bags of methamphetamine in McDonald’s cups of iced water. Edwards indicated that he had place them in the cups when he saw the presence of law enforcement. Edwards indicated that Dutra had agreed to provide transportation in exchange for drugs.
Edwards and Dutra were transported to the Smith County Justice Center. Dutra was charged with possession of methamphetamine and conspiracy to commit a felony. He was released on a $12,000 bond. Edwards was charged with possession of methamphetamine, conspiracy to commit a felony, driving on a revoked and felony possession of drug paraphernalia. He has a $15,000 bond but was held due to outstanding warrants pending in other counties.
