Smith County is now home to our very own Fine Arts Center. The second Floor of the historic Smith County Courthouse has been temporarily renovated as Hull theatre. The Smith County Fine Arts Center will make its grand debut by hosting I’ll be Home for Christmas, directed by Mr. Bill Reece. This musical revue will include characters of Smith County’s finest past and present. You may have heard of folks such as: Ivy Agee, his son Junior, daughter-in-law Virginia, mother Lucille, and long-time family friend Anne Eastes; and those are just to name a few.
The story begins in war-torn France in December of 1943 and follows a Smith County soldier’s experience as he hopes to make it home for Christmas. Musical performances from that era will be performed by Smith County’s most talented vocalists including: Crystal Underhill McCall, Shannon Kemp, Jason Harville, Josiah Tyree, and Jason Sanders of Muddy Waters Blue Grass Band; also Lisa, Sarah, and Megan Nesbitt; Billy and Susie Woodard; Dawn Vaden Bass, and a special performance by State Representative Terry Lynn Weaver during the premier.
Kristen Oldham Sanders will be choreographing each magnificent dance performance in the musical revue as she works with many actors we’ve seen in previous Smith County productions. It has been revealed that the very talented Elaine Wilburn will be playing Lucille Agee, the mother of Ivy Agee. Tickets are being sold now at Smith County Drug in Carthage for $12 each. The show will be held on Friday, December 4 at 6 and 8pm, and again on Saturday December 5 at 6 and 8pm. Tickets will include appetizers and drinks. The theatre seats around 175, so get yours fast before they’re all gone!
