Hometown guys host “Where’s the Line” podcast

March 22, 2023

Britt Dillard and Joseph West are the hosts of the “Where’s the Line” podcast.  Both are Smith County residents and Gordonsville High School graduates who a little more than a year ago decided to put into action an idea that had been in the making for a few years.

It is actually an idea that was likely rooted in a childhood/early teen rivalry.  As young boys, they considered each other enemies since they could not agree on the “better” college team in Tennessee.  Britt is an avid University of Tennessee and Tennessee Titan fan.  Joseph is a devoted Vanderbilt University and generational Raider fan. Their loyalty to their teams created a barrier to friendship and plenty of opportunities for disagreement.  Growing up they learned that they had many other interests and beliefs in common.  Their sports rivalry led to a friendship that has continued to grow.

A little more than a year ago while discussing sports, scores, and events they started thinking they might be able to make their spirited interaction into a podcast.  They decided to act.  Within a week they had done the research, ordered the equipment, and launched their first podcast in November 2021.

In the early days, they called themselves “Unbiased” which was a tongue-in-cheek title since each fully maintains their personal passion for their favorite team.   Initially, they focused on college football.  However, being overall sports fans and wanting to maintain an audience they continued through the year covering the NFL, college basketball, and some college baseball.  They also realized that within the sports dialogues, they were also able to talk about pop culture, politics, and even faith.

In January of 2023, they rebranded their podcast calling it “Where’s the Line”.  Each week they work together to produce new podcasts.  They have learned a lot in the last year about creating content for their podcast and communicating more effectively.  They describe their podcast as “two best friends, talking sports and life. We are chill, casual, and funny.”  They agree that their passion for their favorite team can lead to fervent conversation and debate, but it is all part of the package.

Their efforts have been self-funded.  They record the podcast on Anchor.fm for distribution.  You can find the podcast on Spotify and Apple podcasts.  They hope to continue to grow their listener base and incorporate special guests.  Each host tries to get as much in-person game experience by attending games.  They each have season tickets for their favorite teams.  They have attended some major away games to get the on-the-road experience to complement their home-field familiarity.  To encourage listeners to engage they have hosted fan merchandise giveaways.  They plan to offer more incentives for listeners in the future.  As they continue to grow, they hope to entice sponsors and create more opportunities for listeners to interact with the show via social media.

The “Where’s the Line” podcast features two guys in their twenties talking about sports, current events, life, and faith.  Their passion for a good game is real and their desire to share their love of sports is contagious.  Check out their podcast by searching “Where’s the Line” on Spotify or Apple podcast.
