January 23, 2016

(Smith County Insider Press) Gordonsville, Tenn. – The winter weather over the past few days has taken a toll on all Smith County Roadways. TDOT has been working non-stop to clear the state and federal highways. The Smith County Road Department has been working non-stop for over 48 hours to try to make our county roads drivable.

Below is a Press Release from Steve Coble, the Smith County Road Superintendent’s Office.

“Smith County Highway Department has been working since Friday morning at 6:00 A.M. to clear the roads because of the heavy amounts of snow. We will continue working until we can make it safe for the public. The highway department has spent $14,000 for salt as of January 22. We have two backhoes and a grader pushing the snow and ice two clear the roads, three salt trucks running continuously, and a tree crew cutting trees that have fallen across the roads. We are doing this with 14 employees and we have 442 miles of road to clear. We appreciate your patience. We will get to your road as fast as possible!

Thank you,

Steve Coble – Smith County Road Superintendent
